PHOTO CHALLENGE: 7 Super Shots

Quite late. But I don’t care. I just want to share. 🙂 Got the idea from here: Hostelbookers 7 Supershots

1. A photo that takes my breath away.

Godafoss, Iceland

First thing that took my breath away is the fact that my brown ass has landed in Iceland. Second, is this photograph I took of the Godafoss in Akureyri. I’ve never seen such a picturesque waterfall such as this one. This is also known as the waterfalls of the gods, when you come here in the morning and the sun shines on it you will understand why. The light reflects on the water which gives it a rich jade color.

2. A photo that makes me smile/laugh.

Students in the school situated on a hill in Surke, Nepal.

We were climbing our way to Deurali Bazar to get some provisions while we were trekking in Ramecchap, and we came across a school situated on a hill. They were currently having a class when we came, but everyone stopped when we passed by. There were no roads to walk on to so we walked across the paved court of the school to get to the other side of the road. The kids came out from their classrooms and started following us. They were very curious. These 3 girls stood out of the crowd. They were standing next to each other and they were staring at us. Then we learned that we were the first foreign tourists to come and visit the school hence the curiosity. Whenever I tell this story, I can’t help but smile. 🙂

3. A photo that makes me dream.

View of the Himalayas from the top of Sailung, Nepal.

I dreamed about climbing the highest mountain in the world, the Everest. I always wonder how it feels like to be on top of the world. I captured this image while on top of Mt. Sailung (3400m) where we spend a couple of hours staring and absorbing the magnificent view of the Himalayas.

4. A photo that makes me think

Photo taken in an elephant farm in Laos

This is a photograph of a teary-eyed 28 year old female elephant we rode on. From that day on, I have sworn to never to ride an elephant anymore after seeing her eyes with tears. The bullman (caretaker) tugs her through a hook punctured on her ear. It is a very sad image of such a graceful creature.

5. A photo that makes my mouth water.

In Mysore, enjoying Sevpuri/Panipuri combo.

In Mysore, India, I found myself shoving people aside to see what was the commotion at a tiny food stall. Everyone who comes out from there has a plateful of this fried noodle-ish delicacy on hand. One after the other. Then I asked for a plate of it without knowing what it is called. I was trying to figure out how to shove that delicious snack in my mouth. “No fork, use hand.”, the vendor said. I tilted my head up and drop one of this things in my mouth. IT’S DELICIOUS! It’s a mixture of chopped tomatoes, onion, coriander, carrots, there’s also fresh curd inside a crispy shell like ball. And on top was this fried noodle thing that added that masala taste on this wonderful creation ever. (Notice that I’m sharing it with a fly.)

6. A photo that tells a story.

Pashupatinath, Nepal

This photo tells a story of this man waiting for a dead body to be cremated in Pashupatinath. This is the first time in person I have seen a body being burnt, so I have observed carefully all the activities by the river side. He is also the same man who has cleaned up the platform and put the pile of firewood for the cremation, when the body was burnt and turned into ashes, he swept it off to the river, and had the same platform prepared for the next dead body.

7. A photo that I’m most proud of.

Patan, Nepal

This is a photo I am most proud of, because this is a kind of photograph that I find hard to take photo of, not sure if it’s going to turn out really dark or overly exposed, and also the overall composition is dramatic.

Why Iceland Left Me Speechless

REASONS WHY ICELAND LEFT ME SPEECHLESS:

The waterfalls: My eyes feasted on Godafoss or the Waterfall of the Gods. This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in all of Iceland, it is situated in the island’s central north.

The lagoons: an outdoor all – natural spa surrounded by lava caves bellowing steam. Who wouldn’t want that?!
